Anna Connors Cleans Up In Sprints To Lift Bangor To Another Title By Mary Albl of DyeStat Sprinter Anna Connors helped Bangor High defend its Class A championship Saturday at the Maine State Track and Field Championships at Cameron Stadium in Bangor. The junior won the 100 (12.21), 200 (25.10) and 400 (56.01). Delaney Hesler of Bonny Eagle won the 800 (2:18.93) and 1,600 (4:56.26). In the field, senior Alyvia Caruso of Gorham set a meet record in the long jump with a mark of 18-5.50. The Scarborough boys defended the Class A title, scoring 86 points. Senior Nicholas Connolly led his team with wins in the shot put (57-0) an d discus (153-0). Teammates Zachary Barry won the 1,600 (4:20.21) and finished third in the 800, while Jayden Flaker won the 110 hurdles (14.52)and 300 hurdles (39.25). Frank Morang of Cheverus, repeated as the triple jump (43-3.25) and long jump (22-10.25). Andrew Farr of Gorham, swept the sprints, winning the 100 (11.03), 200 (22.41) and repeating as the 400 champ (49.06). CLASS B The York High boys and girls swept the Class B state titles on Saturday at MDI High School in Bar Harbor. Senior Lexi Brent led the way for the girls, winning the 100 hurdles (15.30), 300 hurdles (47.23) and was part of the winning 4x800 relay (9:50.07) and 4x400 (4:13.64). Teammate Cary Dark of York won the 1,600 (5:04.01) and 3,200 (11:21.65) and ran on the first-place 4x800. In the boys action, junior Matt Charpentier guided York to a state title with his wins in the shot put (59-1) and discus (162-11). Mt. Desert sophomore Miles Burr won the 100 (11.03) and 200 (22.41). Old Town junior Corbin Flewelling claimed the triple jump (43-4.25) and long jump (20-11.75). CLASS C The Lisbon girls defend the Class C title with 119 points at Lewiston High. Sophomore Sarah Moore led the way, winning the 100 (12.81) long jump (17-2) and placed second in the triple jump (34-2). Junior Kiana Goldberg won the 100 hurdles (15.81) and finished second in the 300 hurdles (48.12). Teammate Kayla Cooper won the 400 (61.56) and was third in the 100 (13.13) and 200 (27.30). In the distance events, Orono sophomore Ruth White set a Class C record, clocking 10:46.38 to win the 3,200. She broke the record of 10:53.4 set in 1984 by Christine Snow. White also finished second in the 1,600 (5:03.10). Houlton freshman Teanna Ewings won the 800 (2:24.77) and 1,600 (5:02.47). The Winslow boys scored 86 points to hold off Orono (74.50 points). Senior Evan Watts won the 200 (23.31), while teammate Joe Richards claimed the 400, running 51.88 . Kaleb Colson of Sumner Memory won the 800 (1:59.53) and 1,600 (4:35.95).
